  1. Don’t consume pre-workout drinks such as ‘Ripped’ or ‘Napalm’. Instead use either Coconut Oil or Palm Oil to give you extra energy for your workouts. Coconut Oil contains a large proportion of lauric acid, which is converted into monolaurin by the body. The only other source available is through human breast milk.
  2. Eat Meat! Weston A Price was a dentist known for his theories into the relationship between dental health and nutrition. His research across many countries and cultures stated that he was “yet to find a vegetarian or vegan race around the world with longevity or health.”  The reason being is that vegetarian or vegan diets are lacking in amino acids and saturated fats. If you don’t consume saturated fat, your body cannot break down protein, carbohydrates or other fats.
  3. Breakfast is an absolute must! If you work out early in the morning, without breakfast your body will tap into your blood supply for energy, not your fat stores. Your aim is to use fat as energy.
  4. Mindless Eating is on the rise! Mindless Eating is when you are distracted by the things around you while you are eating. The culprits can be the television, the size of the plate or your family and friends. Avoid eating in front of the television and don’t purchase large plates that you will be inclined to fill.
  5. Don’t be fooled by ‘healthy sugar’ disguises! Sugar can come in many forms such as glucose, fructose, sucrose and lactose. Whether it’s brown sugar, turbinardo sugar, raw sugar or agave nectar, it’s all the same as far as your body is concerned.
  6. Become a food detective! The best way to become healthy is to read the nutrition tables and the ingredients lists of the foods that you purchase. Remember that the ingredients are listed most through to least in quantity. Avoid products where the first few ingredients are words containing ‘ose’ at the end e.g. glucose.
  7. The more we discover about Gluten, the worse it gets! The functional medicine circle has isolated at least 55 diseases linked to the consumption of gluten. In adults, the pain of osteoarthritis has been shown to decrease just from eliminating gluten from the diet. In children, the behavioural changes associated with autism have been severely decreased with the removal of gluten from the diet. Parents of children have also found that reintroducing food containing gluten such as a birthday cake has immediate repercussions on the child’s behaviour
  8. Don’t drink ‘Coke’ under any circumstances! Here are a few facts to make you think twice before reaching for a can of Coke. Fact #1: In many states in the USA, the highway patrol carries two gallons of Coke in the truck to remove blood from the road after a car accident. Fact #2: You can put a T-bone steak in a bowl of Coke and it will be gone within two days. Just imagine what Coke is doing to your insides!
  9. Avoid ‘Fat Free’ or ‘Diet’ products! The top two contributing dietary factors for prostate and breast cancer are fat free dairy products and ingesting sodium benzoate, which is found in diet soda. Manufacturers add many chemicals to make a diet product and for this reason the diet product is often worse than the original version of the product e.g. Soda and Diet Soda.
  10. Alcohol is a toxin to the body! Before a night out, consume some fats and protein to protect your stomach and to minimise blood sugar levels. Your waistline will thank you!
